# Market Cap

> The current price of a coin multiplied by how many are in circulation. A rough size measure.

## Definition

Market capitalisation, or market cap, is calculated as the current price times the circulating supply. It is the standard way to compare the size of one cryptocurrency to another.

Market cap is not the same as the amount of money put into a project, and it can change quickly with the price. A small token with a low circulating supply can show a huge fully diluted valuation that is unlikely to ever be realised.
